EXEMPTION OF SOCIAL SECURITY PAYMENTS FROM EFT MANDATE

On January 7, 1997, Rep. Philip English (R-PA) introduced H.R. 156, Exemption for OASDI Benefits From Mandatory Payment in form of EFTs, in the U.S. House of Representatives. The bill is co-sponsored by Gerald Solomon (R-NY).

H.R. 156 would amend title 31 of the U.S. Code to "provide that recently enacted provisions requiring payment of Federal benefits in the form of electronic funds transfers do not apply with respect to benefits payable under the old-age, survivors, and disability insurance program under title II of the Social Security Act."

H.R. 156 has been referred to the House Government Reform and Oversight Committee chaired by Rep. Dan Burton (R-IN).
