PAYMENTS 2008 is “Going
Green.”
PAYMENTS 2008
will feature new environmental meeting practices
that will provide benefits for the attendee, the
association, and the community. The NACHA Board of
Directors believes that implementing a set of
relatively small changes in meeting practices can go
a long way toward a cleaner tomorrow.
Handouts will not be
distributed at PAYMENTS 2008.
Session handouts will be available to full
conference attendees, 5 days before the conference,
via a pre-conference web page. Session handouts with
audio will be available to all conference attendees
for ninety days following the conference.
What We’re Doing:
- Promoting recycling by providing recycling bins throughout the MGM Grand Conference Center.
- Reducing our use of paper with paperless sessions.
- Using green purchasing by buying recycled content paper, meeting supplies, and conference signs.
- Partnering with a local charity to donate non-recyclable conference materials.
- Coordinating with MGM Grand to conserve energy and water consumption.
- Providing environmentally-friendly name badges and registration bags for attendees.
- Supporting reforestation efforts by providing
with a display area and attendees with the opportunity to donate $1 to plant a tree.
- Delegating an onsite “Green Team” to monitor and answer questions about our greening efforts.
What the MGM Grand Is Doing:
- Conserving water with low flow toilets and shower heads and linen re-use program. Bed linens are replaced the 3rd day of stay or upon departure unless otherwise requested by the guest.
- Conserving energy with compact fluorescent bulbs that maintain low emissions, and energy preserving motion detectors to maintain lighting efficiency.
- Closing guest room drapes to maintain appropriate temperatures.
- Using biodegradable to-go containers.
- Reducing waste with cloth & china instead of paper dining products.
- Separating & recycling dining trash.
- Transporting food waste to a local pig farm.
