Specialized Fields of Study

The Payments Institute is divided into fields of study similar to a college major. Each field is designated by a three-letter acronym so you’ll know which class is the best choice for you.  Many classes are offered under more than one field allowing students to get a full view of the topic. Each field’s curriculum was developed to help students achieve their individual

professional education objectives. In addition, course levels are indicated in the name of the class so you’ll know at a glance if the session material suits your learning objectives.

• 100 level courses are introductory level
• 200 level courses are intermediate level
• 300 level courses are advanced level

No matter what your learning-level or workplace-level, the new fields of study help you craft a schedule that meets your specific professional career goals.

Automated Clearing House (ACH)

This field is designed for students who are interested in learning about the rules and regulations surrounding payments and the specifics of the ACH Network. Topics include audit, rules compliance, enforcement, authentication and authorization, applications and usage, and emerging issues.

Cards & Alternative Payments (CAP)

Courses in this field focus on the issues, challenges, experiences, opportunities, trends, and developments associated with card-based and alternative payment solutions. Classes examine business, operational, and technological innovations from both the issuing and acquiring sides of the credit and debit card environments as well as check, wire and other alternatives to ACH payments.

Risk & Compliance (RCP)

Courses in this field examine the potential risks surrounding all payments mechanisms along with the rules and laws governing compliance. Emerging trends in fraud and fraud prevention along with thorough examinations of laws, rules and regulations are featured class topics.

Corporate Focused (CPF)

This field of study is ideal for those students who work in a corporate payments environment or for those students who work in a financial institution but wish to gain a clearer understanding of the corporate payments environment. These courses were designed

with the corporate customer’s (biller, merchant, government agency, etc.) needs in mind and its relationship with its financial institution or non-bank service provider.

Interactive Learning Labs (ILB)

New this year! Thursday now features nine interactive learning labs encompassing all four fields of study. Students are encouraged to interact with faculty and fellow students in these labs while applying the knowledge they have gained throughout the week. Make plans to stay through Thursday’s graduation lunch.
