First-ever APRP exam to be administered in March 2018

HERNDON, Va., Oct. 12, 2017 – NACHA—The Electronic Payments Association® today announced the launch of the Accredited Payments Risk Professional (APRP) program, a new credential designed to allow payments industry participants to demonstrate a comprehensive knowledge of risk management strategies, concepts, and mitigation techniques within the payments ecosystem.

The APRP credential applies to risk management expertise in all payments networks, including ACH, check, wire, debit, credit and prepaid cards, and emerging and alternative payments. The exam window is March 5-17, 2018. Registration is currently open.

“The payments world is ever-changing, and so is what it takes to succeed. Today, being able to effectively manage payments risk is crucial for organizations that provide payment services, as well as businesses and other end users that use those services,” said Jane Larimer, chief operating officer at NACHA. “Holders of the APRP credential will become the ‘go-to’ experts in the critical and nuanced area of risk management across all payments types.”

Building on the success of the Accredited ACH Professional (AAP) program – of which nearly 4,500 professionals currently hold the credential – NACHA has worked in conjunction with the Regional Payments Associations in a cross-industry effort to develop the APRP program and ready it for launch.

To be awarded the APRP credential, individuals must pass a comprehensive exam administered by NACHA. The exam tests an individual’s knowledge of subjects including the fundamentals of payments risk management, payments systems, payments risk policy and governance, payments risk management systems and controls, physical and information security, and the regulatory environment.

For more information about the APRP program and to register for the exam, please visit nacha.org/aprp. The number of professionals who can sit for the APRP exam during the March 2018 window is capped at 250. Registrants beyond that number will be added to a waitlist.
