PayItGreen Launches “Seal of Approval Challenge” in Support of PayItGreen Month to Encourage Businesses and Financial Institutions to Adopt Environmentally Friendly Payments Practices
HERNDON, Va., April 3, 2012 – PayItGreen®, an environmental initiative led by NACHA – The Electronic Payments Association, launched today its “Seal of Approval Challenge” in support of PayItGreen Month. PayItGreen Month, which is celebrated every April to coincide with Earth Day, seeks to raise awareness of the environmental benefits of electronic payments, billing, and statements. Through its “Seal of Approval Challenge,” PayItGreen will be encouraging businesses and financial institutions to become PayItGreen Approved by demonstrating a commitment to Direct Deposit via ACH, Direct Payment via ACH, and eBills. The goal of the “Seal of Approval Challenge,” which will run through the month of April, is to increase the number of PayItGreen Approved financial institutions and businesses by 50 percent, thereby significantly reducing the amount of paper in circulation as a result of financial transactions.
In order to become PayItGreen Approved, financial institutions and businesses must complete an online survey that evaluates their use and enablement of electronic financial solutions. Survey participants are scored on their responses to a series of questions designed to examine the scope of the organization’s electronic billing and payment progress. Participants’ scores are tabulated immediately, and the company is notified in real time if it has been awarded the PayItGreen Seal of Approval.
“By becoming PayItGreen Approved and displaying the Seal of Approval mark, companies can visibly communicate to customers their commitment to the environment,” said Scott Lang, Senior Vice President, Association Services at NACHA. “Industry research shows consumers care about the environmental practices of the companies they do business with. By becoming PayItGreen Approved, businesses can gain a competitive advantage by differentiating themselves from competitors, offering convenience, improving efficiencies, and cutting costs.”
Organizations looking to become PayItGreen Approved can complete the online survey at http://www.payitgreen.org/sealofapproval/nacha/survey.html. Financial institutions and businesses will also be able to take the survey at PAYMENTS 2012, NACHA’s annual conference for the payments industry, which will take place April 29 – May 2, 2012, at the Baltimore Convention Center. Organizations in attendance at this event can complete the survey at the NACHA/Regional Payments Associations Exhibit Booth, and receive a free, organic PayItGreen t-Shirt and be entered into a drawing to win a free registration to PAYMENTS 2013.
