U.S. Treasury Intends to Participate in Same Day ACH as of Sept. 15, 2017

Posted April 25, 2017

The U.S. Department of Treasury’s Bureau of Fiscal Services (BFS) informed NACHA at a bi-yearly executive meeting, of its intent to be ready to participate in Same Day ACH as of Sept. 15, 2017, which is the same date as the Phase 2 effective date. As of this date, BFS will be ready to receive Same Day ACH credits for tax and non-tax payments. Subsequent to Sept. 15, 2017, BFS will begin to roll out same-day origination capabilities for various Federal agencies, beginning with the IRS’ Electronic Federal Tax Payment System (EFTPS) in October 2017.

Treasury’s participation in Same Day ACH is still dependent on the publication of a final rule under 31 CFR Part 210. For additional information see the Federal Reserve’s customer communication.
