Nacha Meets with Congressional Leadership

Nacha’s Government Relations team has been busy meeting with new committee staff members on both The House Financial Services Committee and Senate Banking Committee to advocate for the ACH Network and discuss 2018 network growth for both Same Day ACH and traditional ACH. In addition to the ACH-specific advocacy, discussions were held on APIs and the need for a business payments directory. Outreach will continue throughout the spring and will culminate with Capitol Hill Day in June.

CFPB Issues Rulemaking Proposals Favorable for Payday Lenders

On Feb. 6, 2019, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) proposed to rescind portions of its 2017 final rule regarding “Payday, Vehicle Title, and Certain High-Cost Installment Loans”, in particular doing away with the current requirements for underwriting determinations that would ensure offered loans are within what the borrowing applicants can afford.

ACH Network Moves 23 Billion Payments and $51 Trillion in 2018

HERNDON, Va., February 19, 2019 – 2018 was a milestone year for the ACH Network. Payment volume climbed by almost 1.5 billion payments, the fourth straight year the ACH Network has added more than 1 billion new payments.  ACH Network volume reached nearly 23 billion payments in 2018, a year-over-year increase of 6.9 percent and the highest growth rate since 2008. That’s nearly 70 payments for every person in the U.S. The value of ACH payments in 2018 was $51.2 trillion, a 9.5 percent increase over 2017.

Taking Risks to Make a Career: Life Lessons from Successful Women in Payments

It’s a common phrase in the payments industry, but how often do you hear “risk management” used in reference to life?  Maybe not often enough.  At the recent Women in Payments USA 2019 Symposium I was honored to be part of a panel on “Navigating a Successful Career as a Woman in Payment/Fintech.” It quickly became clear that there’s nothing wrong with navigating into unchartered waters—if you’re willing to take risks. I have long believed that if you want to do something daring you have to be open to continuous learning, adaptable to change, and be willing to feel uncomfortable for a time.
