NACHA Hosts Annual Government Relations Meeting at Capitol Hill Club
On Nov. 8, 2017, NACHA’s Government Relations Advisory Group (GRAG) held its annual meeting at the Capitol Hill Club. The meeting’s theme was fintech and access to the banking system. Speakers included Politico’s financial services senior reporter, Rep. Bill Foster (D-IL), Rep. Randy Hultgren (R-IL), Matt Lira (Special Assistant to the President for Financial Policy & Initiatives), and a panel of government affairs staff from American Express, Discover and Regions Bank. Also speaking were staff from the CFPB and the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency’s Innovation Office. The dialogue with press, Members of Congress, regulatory agencies and bank lobbyist provided an interesting perspective of current policy initiatives that may impact the financial services industry.
 
OCC Suggests Ending the Separation between Banking and Commerce
On Nov. 8, 2017, Acting Comptroller of the Currency, Keith A. Noreika, delivered an industry conference speech in which he explored the topic of how the separation of banking and commerce evolved in the United States and called for a broader discussion of whether the separation continues to serve the best interest of the nation’s banking system and economy today.
