Scrum Master (On-site/Reston, VA)

Job Summary

The Scrum Master will serve as a servant leader and facilitator for one or more Agile technology delivery teams, ensuring adherence to Agile/Scrum or SAFe principles while enabling high-quality, predictable delivery. This role is responsible for removing impediments, coaching cross-functional teams, supporting product delivery processes, and driving continuous improvement across multiple concurrent projects. Will work daily with business, operations, security, legal, communication, and marketing to better govern the business technology roadmap, drive the idea from concept to service with minimal setbacks.

Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:  

Scrum & Agile Facilitation

  • Facilitates all Agile ceremonies, including Sprint Planning, Daily Standups, Sprint Review, and Retrospectives, ensuring the team collaborates effectively toward sprint goals.
  • Supports PI Planning, System Demos, and Inspect & Adapt sessions for teams operating within SAFe.
  • Ensures adherence to Agile principles and practices while promoting transparency, accountability, and relentless improvement. 

Team Coaching & Support

  • Coaches teams on Agile practices, team dynamics, self-organization, cross-functionality, and continuous improvement.
  • Removes impediments to ensure steady progress while protecting teams from outside distractions.
  • Reinforces strong engineering practices, including refinement, estimation, story grooming, and sprint readiness.
  • Collaborates and partners within and beyond the teams. Build productive relationships with others. Seek out and consider diverse points of view.

Product Delivery & Stakeholder Collaboration

  • Partners closely with Product & Technology Owners to refine backlogs, prioritize stories, and ensure clarity in requirements.
  • Tracks and reports team metrics (velocity, burndown, cycle times, maturity indicators) to stakeholders and leadership.
  • Supports development teams in maintaining visibility of work, risks, dependencies, and deliverables.
  • Guides, motivates, and inspires others to think differently and deliver results. Anticipates and addresses others' concerns to build buy-in for recommendations and decisions.

Cross‑Team & Organizational Alignment

  • Serves as a liaison between multiple Agile teams, Business Owners, QA, Architecture, and other dependent teams.
  • Helps align team execution with program-level or release-level goals, especially for cross-product or multi-team initiatives.
  • Supports compliance with organizational Agile SDLC standards and governance processes. 
Required Qualifications
  • 6 + years’ experience as a Scrum Master.
  • Certified ScrumMaster (CSM), PSM I, SAFe Scrum Master, or equivalent certification.
  • Superior listening and learning skills. Must be able to learn the business objectives and assist in planning and confirm the technology deliverables align not only with the release plan but also with the overall strategic vision.
  • Excellent Communication Skills. Conveys information in a compelling and inspiring manner. Understands listener needs and appropriately tailors written and verbal communications.
  • Critical Thinking Skills - must leverage existing work and ideas to avoid “reinventing the wheel”.
  • Proven experience as a Scrum Master facilitating Agile teams and Agile ceremonies.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively with cross functional and distributed teams.
  • Business Analysis Skill.
  • Familiarity with Jira, Confluence, and other Agile lifecycle tools.
  • Ability to Administrate JIRA and Confluence. 
  • Experience supporting large-scale implementations, API-driven environments, or multi-team product delivery.

     

Educational Requirements

Bachelor's Degree required or equivalent experience.

  1. Sitting: Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk.
  2. Keyboarding: Frequent use of a computer keyboard for typing.
  3. Visual Acuity: Close visual acuity for viewing a computer screen and reading documents.
  4. Reaching: Occasionally reaching for items such as files or office supplies.
  5. Lifting: Occasionally lifting light objects, usually up to 10-20 pounds.
  6. Walking: Short distances within the office to attend meetings or retrieve documents.
  7. Repetitive Motion: Frequent repetitive motions of the wrists, hands, and fingers
