Nacha Wants to Hear from You on Increasing the Same Day ACH Payment Limit

"we want your feedback" coming out of a megaphone

Do you work for a financial institution serving corporate clients that make high-value, time-sensitive payments?

Are you part of a business, nonprofit, or government agency that regularly sends payments over $1 million?

Or are you a third party or solution provider who could help customers unlock new use cases if the Same Day ACH limit were to be raised?

Taking a few minutes before Thursday, Dec. 18, 2025, to share your input could shape the future of Same Day ACH for years to come.

Nacha recently issued a Request for Comment (RFC) on a proposal to raise the Same Day ACH per-payment limit from its current $1 million to $10 million. Nacha is seeking feedback from any organization involved in ACH payments, including financial institutions, corporate and nonprofit originators, government agencies, Third-Party Senders, processors, fintechs, and solution providers.

“This RFC is an opportunity for organizations that are involved in sending and receiving higher-dollar and time-sensitive payments to provide their perspective on raising the Same Day ACH limit,” said Devon Marsh, Managing Director, ACH Network Rules and Risk Management at Nacha. “We’re asking interested parties to weigh in on how a $10 million limit could deliver new efficiencies and enable or enhance use cases.”

Although most ACH payments today are under $1 million, the current cap can constrain how organizations use Same Day ACH for larger transactions. A higher limit could expand options for:

  • Business-to-business payments and supplier disbursements.
  • Insurance claim payments and settlements.
  • Tax payments and government disbursements.
  • Payroll funding.
  • Cash concentration and liquidity management.

As part of the RFC, Nacha is specifically seeking comments on:

  • The benefits and potential impacts of a $10 million Same Day ACH limit.
  • New or expanded high-value use cases this change could support.
  • Risk management, fraud prevention and controls appropriate for higher-value Same Day ACH payments.
Operational and liquidity considerations for both originating and receiving institutions.
  • Customer demand and how organizations anticipate adopting an increased limit.

Since its launch in 2016, and especially following the 2022 increase in the per-payment limit to $1 million, Same Day ACH has become an essential option for faster payments.

Now Nacha is exploring a major next step, and we want to hear directly from you.
